A comet has left a trace of strange dust, astronomers said

According to the astronomers, a comet named 17P / Holmes left a strange trail of dust behind it.

But what generated this?

Scientists have analyzed a long history to figure out what those strange dusty things are.

A brief history of the comet:

It has been observed since 1892 when its do an outburst and became a very bright object in the sky.

However, better known is the event that took place in 2007, when the comet was briefly the brightest body in the Solar System after the Sun, after a huge amount of particles ejected by the comet reflected so much light that the comet's brightness increased a million times.

Thus, returning to the research of astronomers, they drew the line after gathering all the major events of the comet throughout history, thus discovering that the particles were thrown in the shape of an hourglass - a strange shape.

Rest assured, the scientists did not guess at this thing but developed a model that helps describe how the traces of dust that resulted from the ejection would have evolved.

This model could also help future research to calculate other unexpected outbursts or events.

"We predict that with our published data on the time of arrival and the corresponding coordinates of the dust trail of the comet 17P/Holmes in 2022 it will be visible even in the telescopes of amateur astronomers," said Maria Gritsevich from the University of Helsinki, one of the authors of the study.

"We expect that the results of their observations will provide additional information about the number and size of the particles and their geospatial distribution. This information will be useful for developing new models and understanding what happens to the comet and its trail," she continued.
