News! Recently, ESA posted some photos of ISS astronauts. As you can see, they are eating potato cream soup. Astronaut Matthias also sent a post stating that "Sharing a slice of Saarland - or in this case, more boxes". Usually, ESA astronauts from ESA eat this potato cream soup. But all the preserves they eat contain potato cream soup, venison stew, flour dumplings, boiled potatoes in sauce, according to Matthias, these potatoes are also called "Geheirade". This contains the whole can and is eaten with toast, also called Rostige Ritter.

That's what asronauts eat at lunchtime. There are whole boxes of such cans on the ISS and they are distributed to each astronaut separately, with the name written on the box that belongs to him. Such a canned box on the ISS consists of approx. 33 cans. The expiration date of the cans that astronauts now eat is in January 2023. Thus, the cans last a long time.

As you can see in the picture above, a can pack does not contain just one type of can. This, in addition to containing cream of potato soup, also contains Basmati rice and more special bread.

Canned food is eaten with the help of Saarland spoons, which are spoons more different than others. The spoons are laser-structured and antimicrobial, which makes astronauts eat safely. These spoons were developed with the help of Saarland University, the European School of Materials (EUSMAT) and the Saarland Center for Materials Engineering (MECS). It worked for a while until they could be used safely, but the result is very good.

We wish success to the astronauts on the ISS for future missions.
