A solar storm hit the Earth "directly" as scientists say.

The storm made contact with our atmosphere on July 19, hitting the United States.

Over the states of Washington, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, the aurora borealis caused by the storm have been observed so far and will be visible until the end of the week.

No major power or telecommunication outages have been reported so far, the storm causing only the spectacular phenomena that any photographer would want to see.

"I love catching the #aurora over the city," says Seattle professional photographer Sigma Sreedharan. "It is a hard thing to do with all that light pollution, but that is the fun part, right?"
